Why is branding important?

We live in a complex and confusing marketplace. We are bombarded with media messages from sun up until sun down (who are we kidding 'sun down', more like 'sunup 'til heads on pillow!'). In this busy and complicated world we must be clear and consistent with who we are and why we matter. We need to give potential customers a quick way to make a good choice with a rock solid brand that is communicated through every customer touch at all hours of the day. Why is branding important in content and advertising?

Marketing folk law tells us that it takes 7 times for someone to see a brand before they even know it exists. 7 times! Now what if during the 7 encounters there were mixed messages, the brand spoke about multiple different aspects of there offering, spoke in an inconsistent tone or was just plain boring. Well I think it would take twice the amount of time for people to pay attention. Knowing who you are and what you stand for and being consistent in your content and advertising means that it takes less to get people to recognise you. Bigger bang for your marketing dollar, that's for sure.

Here's a little infographic we've done on why branding is important using some brands you recognise.
